Day 3 of 30 – Raspberry Tinted

Prompt Day 3: Find the nearest book (it just so happened to be V’s book “A Woman’s Cry), turn to page eight and write down the first ten words.  Use only real words. Write a poem using all the words in any order.

My words:

mmm, damn, i, loved, me, some, pretty, boys, but, never

it’s an unedited piece. 🙂 be gentle. and I hate titling things.

i wake up in the middle of sentences

riled up in third paragraph arguments

never having introduced myself

sanity questionable at best

i’ve got my theories

pretty premenopausal flashes of searing psychosis

like how egyptians could have been aliens

like how “pretty” means nothing, means everything

but apparently we were talking about boys

your last words being “damn i loved me some…”

and I just couldn’t…

so i left.

found white walled madness in daydreams

found anything else to talk to you about

so i wouldn’t have to hear his name

you never say mine like that

like “mmm” in my ear

like cherry bomb lip gloss slipped across your bottom lip

like we could really do this

instead the non sequiturs fast winding in my head

become scattered attempts to impress

become stories with no end, no heroine

you are 32 flavors of ani difranco mix tapes, red doc martens and a sincere case of southern charm

weaving my random into your elastic raspberry tinted worldview

and suddenly there is space for this

  1. I hate titling things too!
    “so i left.
found white walled madness in daydreams
found anything else to talk to you about
so i wouldn’t have to hear his name” is the meat of this piece to me.
