SIN VERGÜENZAS WRITE
Live Virtual Workshop
a 5 week virtual writing workshop dedicated to voice
First time & experienced writers welcomed!
Loud. Lush. Y con mucho much amor.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Each week we’ll dive into a new aspect of voice: from letting ourselves speak to listening to the ancestors and writing our own manifestos. We will journal, daydream, and write until our spirits spill out onto the page, all while learning the tools and practices to hit our writing goals and finally tell the life stories we’ve been carrying.
By the end of the 5 weeks, you’ll have a manifesto filled with your visions of liberation, and a damn good start to that memoir or essay you’ve been putting off. And that voice of yours will be stronger, more present and ready to write for real, for real. Plus, the ancestors will be there every step of the way.
So get ready, Sin Verguenzas, cuz it’s time to write.
This space centers QTBIPOC writers and welcomes all who come with respect, humility, and a willingness to learn from the margins.
FIVE-WEEK TIMELINE
Sin vergüenza literally translates to “without shame.” It’s a term used all across the Diaspora to also make a statement about the behavior of young girls or independent women. And gays and queers. Anyone who struts or laughs too loud. And still, it’s a term of endearment that honors curiosity, brilliance, and/or ability to be so damn funny you make your grandma pee herself in the supermarket.
We do not walk in this world alone. The ancestors walk besides us. They often lead the way. But it can get really hard to hear them sometimes. It takes practice. Connecting with them opens up divine pathways to writing. And if you don’t feel connected to any ancestors, then now’s a good time to dig deep and find someone in this vast world of legendary elders/ancestors to shine towards. Voice needs lineage. Voice needs community.
What do you believe in? Seriously, what are your non-negotiables for living in this world and dealing with other human beings? Start with absolutes, human rights, living conditions. Then add the beautiful things and the messy things.
You are the altar. What offerings do you lay out for yourself? What pain or judgements do you release? What do you lay out for your ancestors? For your little kid sin vergüenza? Freewrite
What do you wish for the other Sin Vergüenzas in this cohort? What have you learned about yourself as a person? As a writer?
So get ready, Sin Verguenzas, cuz it’s time to write.
